Being laid off really sucks. The unemployment checks that I recieve help pay the bills, but that's just about it. I need to get out and make some money. You know, I wanna feel like I'm contributing to something. The only good thing about being out of work that I can think of is all the time I'm getting to spend my son, Logan.
Logan was born on December 19, 2008, two days after I was laid off. Becoming a father was the greatest moment in my life. I have had an absolute blast this past 1+ year watching him grow and develop. It is so remarkable how much they change in just a short period of time.
Logan is now 14 months and he is growing so fast. We have so much fun together. A typical day for me and my son starts with breakfast. He usually has yogurt followed by cereal, fruit, or an egg. Something like that. Then, I get him dressed for the day and we go into the living room where he begins his playtime. Sesame Street comes on at 9, so we watch that. Mostly I watch it. He watches for a while, plays for a while, watches some more. He especially likes "Elmo's World".
At Sesame Street is finished, we then load into my truck for our daily ride. This ritual initially started as a means for me to just get out of the house. It has now become a daily occurrence. We like to ride out in the country and just look at the beautiful landscapes. I think Logan looks forward to his rides.
After the ride, Logan settles in for lunch. He eats anything from pasta to chicken, to ravioli, you name it, along with a vegetable. Then, after lunch, I read a book to him. He has several books in his room that were given to him as gifts and we also pay a weekly visit to the library. After lunch, Logan plays some more while I finish up "The Price is Right".
Nap time at 12:30. Much needed break for daddy!
Logan usually naps for about 2 hours. We he wakes up, he gets a snack. Usually a graham cracker or a slice of cheese and some juice. After his snack, it's time to play some more. But this time, we head outdoors. Logan loves to play outdoors. Some days we will go to the park. They have a playset at the park with steering wheels on it. I think Logan could play with those steering wheels all day if I let him. Some days, we just stay in our yard and play with his wagon and tricycle. Mostly, though, Logan just likes to walk around the yard and investigate. He loves sticks, for some reason. He'll pick a stick up and shake it back and forth. Whatever floats his boat, I guess.
Soon, Mommy will be home, so we head inside to start on dinner. Logan usually likes to get up under my feet, wanting me to pick him up so he can see what I'm cooking. It's really hard to cook with a 1 year old up under your feet. Mommy makes it home and we all sit down at the table for dinner.
After dinner, the kitchen is cleaned and Logan and I spend time with Mommy. This just usually involves Logan playing some more. I guess that's his number 1 goal in life right now, too play as much as he can. At around 7, Logan gets a small snack to tide him over until the morning. Then, a little more playing, and time to get ready for bed. Bedtime is at 8. But, before bedtime, Mommy and I read Logan and story from his children's Bible. Sometimes he pays attention, other times, not so much. Either way, he hears it, I guess. Then off to bed to get ready for another full day.
Well, that's pretty much the day in the life of Scott and Logan Hiers. Father and son. Best buds.
